“Being a student mentor has allowed me to develop my leadership skills, connect with fellow students, and make a positive impact in the university community.”
Jesse Pickering
As a student mentor at Griffith University, I have had the opportunity to develop my skills in leadership, communication, and problem-solving. Through my experiences, I have gained a better understanding of the challenges that students face and the strategies that can be used to overcome these challenges.
One of the most rewarding aspects of being a student mentor is being able to provide guidance and support to other students. Whether it is helping them navigate the complexities of university life, offering academic advice or simply lending a listening ear, I have found that being a mentor has allowed me to make a positive impact on the lives of others.
However, being a student mentor is not without its challenges. One of the biggest challenges that I have faced is balancing my responsibilities as a mentor with my own academic workload. At times, it can be difficult to manage my time effectively, but I have found that by prioritizing my tasks and setting clear goals, I am able to stay on top of my commitments.
Another challenge that I have encountered is dealing with students who may not be receptive to my advice or guidance. In these situations, I have learned that it is important to remain patient and empathetic, and to approach each student as an individual with unique needs and circumstances.
Overall, my experiences as a student mentor at Griffith University have been incredibly rewarding. Through this role, I have been able to develop my skills, make meaningful connections with other students, and contribute to the university community in a positive way.
