Wood Chair Exhibition Project

Description

As part of my industrial design degree, I was tasked with designing and creating an exhibition piece for a university project. I decided to create a chair using a bent wood lamination process.

My task was to design a unique chair that showcased my skills in design and manufacture. I wanted to create a piece that was both functional and visually appealing, while also demonstrating my ability to use advanced production techniques.

I began by researching different chair designs and production methods, taking inspiration from various sources to develop my own concept. I then created a series of sketches and 3D models to refine my idea, making adjustments and modifications along the way.

Once I had a solid design, I began the process of creating the chair using a bent wood lamination process. This involved carefully selecting and cutting pieces of wood to the correct size and shape, before gluing them together using an adhesive and clamping them in a mold to dry.

After the glue had set, I carefully removed the chair from the mold and sanded it down to create a smooth and uniform finish. Care was taken in the design to hide any bolts and to give the effect of a floating design.

The final result was a unique and eye-catching chair that demonstrated my skills in both design and manufacture. The bent wood lamination process allowed me to create a chair that was not only beautiful, but also strong and durable enough for everyday use.

Through this project, I gained a deeper understanding of the design and production process, and honed my skills in problem-solving and attention to detail. I was proud to showcase my chair in the university exhibition, and received positive feedback from both my peers and professors.

This experience taught me the importance of taking risks and being creative in my approach to design. By developing my own concept and using advanced production techniques, I was able to create a unique and functional piece that demonstrated my skills and potential as a designer.

Moving forward, I will continue to challenge myself to think outside the box and push the boundaries of design and manufacture. I am excited to see where this approach takes me, and look forward to future projects and opportunities to showcase my skills and creativity.
